Dear Emerging Artist,
Do Not quit your day job,
I say this because poverty increases drive but reduces creativity.
This Increased drive due to poverty is what pushes the Artist to trek a far distance in the sun on an empty stomach with a heavy bag pack to a bus stop because you can’t afford to make it to a studio session that you could barely afford in the first place
When you eventually get to the studio against all odds, chances are you will record the most typical “commercial song” known to man, simply because you CANNOT AFFORD to take creative risks on the song.
But then when your Welfare doesn’t depend on that studio session, you will have less time but chances are you will be mentally prepared to take more creative risks, therefore creating something unique.
Looking at my girl, not a single thought of the market on her mind.
Stress free.
She smiles, “babe… they messed up my Starbucks. Way too much milk.
I laugh softly, “that’s great.”
