My Advice to Bankers
Banking is a respectable profession, but it should never become your final destination. It is a platform, not a lifetime identity. The financial system rewards discipline, intelligence, and access, but it does not automatically reward loyalty. You must think beyond your monthly salary.
First, understand the truth: your job is only a tool. It gives you exposure to money, systems, and people. Use that exposure wisely. Learn how wealth is created, not just how it is moved. Study investing, business structuring, risk management, and digital finance. The real power of banking is the knowledge it gives you, not the desk you sit behind.
Second, master delayed gratification. Many bankers fall into the trap of lifestyle pressure. The suits, the dinners, the perception of success. Do not let appearance bankrupt your future. Save aggressively, but more importantly, invest intelligently. Build assets while you still have energy and access.
Third, build income streams outside the banking hall. No salary is truly secure. Policies change. Banks merge. Jobs disappear. Your skills and investments should be your real security. Use your position to understand capital flows, then position yourself on the right side of those flows.
Fourth, protect your reputation. In finance, trust is currency. One careless decision can destroy years of work. Let your name open doors long after your job title no longer matters.
Finally, design your exit. Every banker should have a long-term plan beyond employment. Whether it is entrepreneurship, consulting, investing, or leadership, decide early where you are going. Do not wake up after 20 years and realize you only built someone else’s institution.
Use banking as a launchpad, not a cage. Build quietly. Move strategically. Exit intentionally.
That is the path to real freedom.
I listened to a Podcast by NT Wright, a renowned Theologian and Bishop of the Church of England. He was asked if Online Church is real church- I expected he would say “yes”, because of how liberal the Church of England could be.
His conclusion was that except in extreme situations where it is actually impossible for church to gather, the biblical concept of church is a physical gathering of believers and believers should seek to be in church physically.
Online church isn’t really church.
We say we want deeper relationships, but when someone asks how we’re doing, we say “good.”
Even when we’re not.
Connection doesn’t happen when you’re impressive, it happens when you start being authentic and vulnerable. 💜🙏

If more church members pray for their pastors rather than gossip and murmur, more pastors will fulfill God's will and more churches will thrive!
