To my fellow performers that are following the #Mgen conversation

An update-

I just spoke to Ian from PASS. I asked a lot of questions and I took notes

Ian has been speaking to infectious disease experts regarding the Mgen issue who understand our occupational hazards. He confirmed that CDC recommendations are not based on the adult industry, and that we follow more extreme protocols because of occupational hazards.

Pass wants to be clear about policy- they want to be able to have this discussion so that people understand all of the moving parts involved.

The test isn��t available at labs commercially yet so they can’t add it to panel. This is why it hasn’t been added. It’s not purposefully being kept away from the panel for any other reason but simply because other labs aren’t able to access the test unless they create the test themselves.

The problem is mgen is a major problem. Public health guidance has not caught up.

We can’t force testing of partners. This creates the issue where a Performer can be reinfected, continuing the problem.

PASS didn’t ask CLEAR to remove the test. The only wanted CLEAR to clarify that the Mgen anal swab is not required on the panel, and that it is an optional add on.

The end of test shopping has got to be a community solution. Test shopping is going to one clinic and receiving one set of results, then going to another clinic attempting to receive different results.

They have talked about implementing a system within pass where if you test positive for an sti, you must retest at the same clinic until you test negative to end test shopping. Ian will be exploring what needs to be achieved technically within the site and what needs to be discussed with clinics to create this solution. If the community agrees, this is something they can move forward with as an answer to this problem.

The biggest problem implementing a system like that is that not enough performers actively use the pass system to report their test results. In order to keep our community safe, more performers need to opt in to the pass system.

The call on the 7th is dedicated to mgen. This is the time to share your concerns, ask questions in real time, and hear it for yourself.

Ian thanked me for having this conversation and he is truly looking forward to speaking to the rest of you. People like us, see this as a teachable moment, and hope that education and communication can help move us through these situations.
