Who will question the Supreme Court? Raises many questions: 1)can you grant such extraordinary largesse to ONE Gujarat group of absconders? 2) once you open the door to deliberate defaulters will it ever be shut? 3) why not repeal the Bankruptcy law… if it only applies to less powerful? 4) isn’t it strange that courts in mumbai still question @TheVijayMallya who has paid off his loans with interest 5) are we getting ready for a new round of loan write offs citing Sandesara precedent? Oops… does concept of precedent exist in India?

Today is the darkest day of my life.
My beloved son, Agnivesh, left us far too soon. He was just 49 years old, healthy, full of life, and dreams. Following a skiing accident in the US, he was recovering well in Mount Sinai Hospital, New York. We believed the worst was behind us. But fate had other plans, and a sudden cardiac arrest snatched our son away from us.
No words can describe the pain of a parent who must bid goodbye to his child. A son is not meant to leave before his father. This loss has shattered us in ways we are still trying to comprehend.
I still remember the day Agni was born in Patna on 3 June, 1976. From a middle-class Bihari family, he grew into a man of strength, compassion, and purpose. The light of his mother’s life, a protective brother, a loyal friend, and a gentle soul who touched everyone he met.
Agnivesh was many things - a sportsman, a musician, a leader. He studied at Mayo College, Ajmer, went on to set up one of the finest companies Fujeirah Gold, became Chairman of Hindustan Zinc, and earned the respect of colleagues and friends alike. Yet, beyond all titles and achievements, he remained simple, warm, and deeply human.
To me, he was not just my son. He was my friend. My pride. My world.
Kiran and I are broken. And yet, in our grief, we remind ourselves that the thousands of young people who work across Vedanta are also our children.
Agnivesh believed deeply in building a self-reliant India. He would often say, “Papa, we lack nothing as a nation. Why should we ever be behind?”
We shared a dream to ensure that no child sleeps hungry, no child is denied education, every woman stands on her own feet, and every young Indian has meaningful work. I had promised Agni that more than 75% of what we earn would be given back to society.
Today, I renew that promise and resolve to live an even simpler life.
There was so much life ahead of him. So many dreams yet to be lived. His absence leaves a void for his family and friends. We thank all his friends, colleagues and well-wishers for always being there for him.
Beta, you will live on in our hearts, in our work, and in every life you touched.
I do not know how to walk this path without you, but I will try carrying your light forward.
AI story till now. It is still unfolding.
AI is a very useful technology and will change life transformationally in next few years and decades. It will generate substantial productivity gains in most areas like electricity, telecom or IT did.
In AI, Large US companies and Government of US tried to project it as a matter of large investments rather than use of brains. Extremely Costly hardware, trillion dollar models etc were to some extent part of the hype, awe and shock model US adopts to control most new technologies to keep small countries and small companies out.
In last 3 years since ChatGPT started, it was a constant reminder every day that countries like China are enemies because they also have AI capabilities they built over last twenty years using government planning and coordination.
It was also projected that Countries like India are losers is AI field - because they are neither like US which can spend trillions of USD or are like china where government capabilities of to direct investments and efforts are immense.
AI field has been changing fast and becoming democratised every day. Democratisation of technology brings down costs of new technologies with each passing day. The AI tech waves are coming faster at a pace that no one is able to control or even comprehend let alone own.
Last few weeks have proved that much more effective hundreds of open weight AI models coming out of China and other countries don’t require large compute also that has been projected by US AI groups. These Chinese models are being proved to be equal or better in their effectiveness for purpose.
Broadly, the hype, shock and awe part of the US AI story has been punctured substantially in last few weeks. Repercussions will be felt over next several years.
User countries like India would be the beneficiaries. For example, over last 60 years, India didn’t invent computer chips, most computer languages, databases, network equipments etc. Despite that India has been one of the winners of the IT race in the world over last several decades.
I am becoming more confident that India will be the biggest winner of AI race as the most adaptive country for Informarion technology in next 20-30 years. Indian policy makers, organisations and individuals will have to work hard, coordinate and make the best out of this extremely fast evolving situation.
Next race is already building up. Robotics between US and China. How do we get prepared and how do we combine Robotics with AI to be the biggest beneficiaries of this new fast moving race needs to be thought through.

Nine convicted in the digital arrest case of Ranaghat Police awarded life imprisonment
In a major development in the digital arrest fraud case conviction secured by the Ranaghat Police District, all the nine convicted have been awarded with life imprisonment by the Kalyani Court on Friday.
“It is a historic day for the prosecution and investigating agencies. This is not only the first conviction in the digital arrested fraud case, but also the convicts of a cyber crime case getting life presentment for the first time,” said Special Public prosecutor, Bibhas Chatterjee.
On November 6, last year, a retired agricultural scientist identified as Partha Kumar Mukhopadhyay of Kalyani lodged a complaint at the Ranaghat Cyber Crime Police Station alleging that on October 19, 2024, he received a call from WhatsApp number wherein the caller introduced himself as Sub Inspector (SI) Hemraj Koli of Andheri Police Station, Mumbai and informed him that he was found involved in a financial fraud. To convince Mukhopadhyay, the fraudster had sent various forged documents related to cases wherein he was mentioned as an accused. By putting the elderly scientist in fear, the caller forced him to send more than Rs 1 crore to multiple bank accounts on the pretext of digital arrest. After the case was registered, police had arrested 13 persons from several states like Maharashtra, Gujarat and Haryana but against four, no evidence was found. Therefore, the four of them were released and subsequently their names were not mentioned in the chargesheet.
After the trial, the nine persons were convicted on Thursday following which they were awarded with life presentment on Friday. It has been learnt that a total of 108 complaints are registered on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) against this gang involving cheated amount worth more than Rs 100 crore.

Some startling facts about the Justice Yashwant Varma scandal. Only a fair CBI inquiry can bring out the truth and the role of all those who have tried to cover it up.
1) The son of a media editor was reportedly his biggest tout. Will the role of this person also be investigated?
2) Has the police made a seizure memo of the currency allegedly discovered at the judge’s house? If not why wasn’t it done and why is the case being deliberately weakened?
3) Is it true that a senior officer from the local police showed Justice Varma the video recorded of the cash on his phone? Is it true that the original recording of the burning cash deleted from the phones of the fire men who recorded the video?
4) Which officer from the local police got the video deleted from mobile phones of the firemen? Why haven’t the statement of the firemen been taken who recorded the video of the burning cash?
5) Has the police seized the original device on which the video of the burning wades of note purportedly recorded?
Opposition & media shaken awake by the ugly optics of US military plane carrying our citizens like terrorists. MEA & @DrSJaishankar were aware of Colombia denying US military flights permission. Like them why couldn’t we arrange flights for dignified return of our citizens? Are we so petrified of Trump that we are dumbstruck?
Tuna never had it so good, and the Indian Government has also recognized this fish’s unique nutritional and health benefits. Amongst the most lucrative and environmentally-sustainable marine resources in the world, tuna sales and exports are likely to scale new highs, with Andaman and Nicobar Islands (ANI) being the epicentre of this revolution.
