‘We peal in muffled sadness,
For loved ones laid to rest’.
Fully-muffled ringing with the tenor open at backstroke @durhamcathedral for HM Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral this morning. Bells were rung at towers across Durham.
We're privileged to have access to views of the Cathedral most people never see. The huge trap door in the floor of the ringing chamber has a couple of spy holes to the chancel crossing, so we can see where the wedding party are up to when processing out. Moons not often seen!
It's three years since 'Methods' @durhamcathedral: 24 hours of live bellringing performed for an audience of thousands seems like a lifetime ago! Rewatch behind the scenes:

If you were listening out on Thursday evening you might have heard us ringing @durhamcathedral for the first time since March! We were checking the bells and measuring up to plan for future ringing with social distancing. #ringingwithamask
At 8pm as we #clapforcarers and in celebration of #CaptainTom's 100th birthday we will ring a bell 100 times across Durham City. It will be livestreamed over on Facebook. A salute to NHS staff & all key workers and #HappyBirthdayCaptainTom
Thanks to Paul Oliver for sending us these beautiful images of a rainbow over Durham, captured from the top of our central tower. Aren't those views amazing?
