When Trump calls himself king or threatens to ignore the laws like Napoleon, he's A/B testing authoritarianism. If his base likes it, he'll keep going and see how far he can push it. If he loses enough support, he'll say he was only trolling. That gives him plausible deniability.

This “cost cutting” rampage has nothing to do with cutting excessive costs. If it were, it would be about taking on the Pentagon, subsidies for Big Oil, and tax cuts for the richest people among us (extending Trump‘s tax cut will cost over $4 trillion over the next 10 years).
This is not about cutting out costs. It is about cutting out the government.

Elon Musk has no respect for the laws of the United States. He has no knowledge of the work that is done by our federal agencies. His taking over the computer systems of the federal government and simply deciding, along with his group of young and inexperienced computer engineers, to keep what they want to keep and not keep what they don’t want to keep is wildly illegal and constitutes an assault on our democracy. Being the richest man in the world should not equate to dictatorial power. Everyone will come to regret this, I think… even Donald Trump.

If we think we can go around threatening our neighbors - whether it's Mexico, Canada, or any other - we should all be very clear that they won't take it lying down.

Canada has already announced its own tariffs in response to ours. Plus Trump is endangering our security by making Latin America more understandably open to Chinese influence.

His authoritarian assaults on our own Constitution are bad enough. His threatening other countries, too, bodes horribly for our future.
