ECU Baseball…. And specifically “The Jungle” lost a legend today.
Wade Sumlin joined his wife in heaven, in what could only be expected… as a glorious reunion!
If you don’t know Mr Wade… you certainly know the people that he associates with... his family and friends are a part of the “Cannon Crew”.
If you were ever looking for him… he was usually posted over up behind the cannon… leaning against what we all know as “Wade’s Tree”
One of the things he loved the most… was hearing that cannon explode following a Pirate Run scoring…. And he enjoyed thousands of cannon blasts in his tenure.
He and his wife were passionate Pirate baseball fans, attending games as often as they could, which became more difficult as his illness progressed this past season. He was always one to exchange a firm handshake, flash a smile, and a genuine “Go Pirates”
The 2026 @ECUBaseball season starts in roughly 35 days…
Opening Day will be a bit different this year.
May his memory live on….
One cannon blast at a time.

@DavisSearcy I’ve never really gave up before, but I can say right now I couldn’t care less about basketball. Had one fun year when I was in school with the CIT run and saw what it could be and we just went downhill since. Football and baseball for me.
