@darrenpatkins@stevemagness I’ve done several videos of how corrupt FIFA is. But totally agree here. What do people think, in the 10 seconds of hitting the wire, they knew not to stop play so England “might” score. The game had probably resumed and restarted before anyone even noticed the ball hit the wire
As always, your yearly reminder that fireworks are stupid and harmful. Please don’t support them.
Thank you. You may return to your regularly scheduled patriotism.
After elbow reconstruction from a fall in 2019, I no longer have the range of motion to do a legit pull up. First world problems but does make me sad. Just a movement I’d like to train and can’t.
If you can do 10/5 perfect strict pull ups, you have an elite level of bodyweight to strength compared to the general population.
99 out of 100 people you see on a daily basis can't do 10/5 legitimate pull ups.
The goal for a LOT of people is not pure “health” or “longevity”. Unhealthy things can be fun. They can also be rewarding. Just because someone doesn’t see “the purpose” or benefit doesn’t mean it isn’t there for someone else. We don’t all have the same goals.
"Yeah, but if you don't stay up late drinking every once in a while, are you even really living?"
That's 'living'?!
We're in a full-blown Stockholm syndrome situation with our unhealthy lives.
@Devinmain@Alan_Couzens@Sevhic_ Yes. At some point, all training responses flatten out as you start to approach your genetic potential. That’s why we don’t get infinitely faster. At that point, different stimulus is needed to see improvement. In this specific scenario, it would probably be harder/faster running
@MR_Burkey@Alan_Couzens Exactly. I take two, 15 min breaks at work and walk 1800 steps on each. It’s 3600 steps added to my total and adds ZERO time to my day. It also lets me walk around the building which is up against nature….its so much more productive of a break than staring at my phone
@HankFrank Just did an easy 105 min trail run this morning. No water or fuel. I never even thought about it. Experienced runners know what they need. Last weekend did a 120 min run but knew I needed water and fuel because it was just slightly more intense.
@elbravoeugenia@HankFrank The heart rate zone immediately preceding your first rise in lactic acid as testing by a blood lactate test. Usually ~60-65% of max, but not always.
@Wariohead_@Alan_Couzens While true, the point Alan is making is that you have to start where you are…..and you have to know where you are in order to elicit the proper response. The kind of athletes that look to social media for training advice most likely do need to start with brisky walks.
In my opinion, this mostly stems from 1) arbitrary goals, like “breaking 3 hours” and 2) complete misinterpretation of training paces. “I was able to do XYZ in training so that means I should do XYZ in a race”. It doesn’t. It doesn’t remotely means that.
@jasonpedersen It’s funny how quick we forgot that some dumb thing we did to the clocks a few days ago can actually have a pretty big effect…,that and you’re also a pile ;)
Athletes who workout in the morning, remember it takes a few days to feel the effects of Daylight Saving time. If you’re feeling really tired and groggy right now, that’s why. Give yourself some grace through the weekend and well into next week to adjust.
@MikeSmith_10X@Brady_H@inaki_delaparra It can’t be accurate for me. I can cover almost exactly 2 miles in 12 mins. At 50 years old, that puts my VO2 max at over 60. I don’t think that’s right. I would think I’d be more like low 50’s. But don’t know. Never had it tested.
@Alan_Couzens To be fair, all the metrics you mentioned are literally tracked automatically. I don’t put one ounce of “effort” into tracking those things. I simply purchase a computer and software to do it behind the scenes. A bit different to have to break down each meal and log it.
@taggartvanetten “I bet” that person that beat you just has better genetics, since that is the most likely reason and the highest probability “bet”. (Leaderboards are *mostly just a list, in order of how genetically gifted you are).
@theryandreyer Absolutely. I’m like 3:15-20 guy and my zone just before my first aerobic threshold is right around 10 min pace on the flats. It’s where I spend the overwhelming amount of my time.
@willis_training@hybridathlete It can work. Has to be really hard though. I do one session a week of 6 exercises. All 6 are one set of super slows to failure. 10 seconds up and 10 down looking for failure between 4-6 reps. Session is “only” 20 mins or so but so difficult you can really only do it once a week
