We’re past ‘fears’ - we’ve lost 5% of dairy farms in the last year.
The price paid to farmers has fallen 3x more than the price cut on the shelf. Who’s pocketing the rest?
Farmers once again selling food below the cost of production @CommonsEFRA.

@implausibleblog@Minette_Batters A minister so far out of her depth! Anyone taking bets on how much longer she will have in the role?? Well done @Minette_Batters for perseverance in a truly frustrating situation.
@itvracing talking about dwindling numbers at race meetings but haven't mentioned the vast number of meetings taking place. Are we just diluting the punter numbers, in the same way that we are runners?
@Mrs_Pig@BritishVets@uttoxeterjames@Minette_Batters Jebb: “The longer the UK operates without assurance that products from the EU meet our high food and feed safety standards, the less confident we can be that we can effectively identify potential safety incidents.”
I'll just leave it there. 8/ENDS
My letter responding to @aliceTTimes highlighting the essential role of farmers and food production. How long before UK government wake up to the fact that food grown on our land really does matter….not just for us but the rest of the world too #GlobalFeeding
@Chaileybrook@HertsFarmer I think what makes it all worse is that Eustace used to show a bit of an understanding of farming. He now just comes across as completely ignorant. @Minette_Batters makes him look like a scolded school boy, in the head teachers office, every time he sits in front of her.
Thank you to @JulianSturdy for highlighting how Britain is uniquely placed to produce sustainable, climate-friendly food due to the professionalism of British farmers - optimising the balance between food production, resource use and environmental impact #BackBritishFarming
Two sugars, both sporting the 🇬🇧
Both British?
Well, no.
👨🌾 Silver Spoon is grown in the UK by British sugar beet farmers.
🚢 T&L is only processed in the UK from imported sugar cane.

Good to hear @Minette_Batters on @BBCFarmingToday calling out the various vested interests in the ‘plant based diet’ industry. As always follow the money and it inevitably ends up in a corporate bank account or politician’s expense wallet.
“We believe Oatly has "cherry-picked" the study's results by failing to show that its impact on water consumption is worse than dairy milk. “ https://t.co/pbARzuYcDH
And presumably there’s no environmental concerns with offshoring our food supply? You might just want to check with some of the conservation organisation she cites in support of her argument here… not tricky as this letter was in her own newspaper just days ago…./21
A climate tipping point?
3.9m hectares of 🇧🇷 rainforest felled in 2019 🔥
We must produce more of our own food, more sustainably 🌳

Dab-hand Matt wants best in show while first-time farmers Paige and Kingsley are hoping that showing their sheep at the @RIWcountyshow will bring them closer to their life dream of becoming full-time farmers.
Tune in 3.45pm on @BBCOne#farmlife#farminguk
Writing exclusively for @SpecialityFood magazine @Minette_Batters talks about the value of British food production and why a healthy, balanced diet is so important 🥕🧀🥩🍞🍓
