While driving to the VA, I reflected on something brought out by the dream. My wife had been turning my good news into bad news, with comments like, “I wish you had told me sooner.” “Great. But that doesn’t change anything.”
I chose the coach’s play. A short time later, after we won the Super Bowl, I saw my wife. I had to choose. I chose to forgive. However, she gave me the silent treatment. I knew a very confusing conversation lay on my future. Then I woke up.
I had a dream. I was in the NFL. I was the quarterback and it was the Superbowl. The offensive coach sent me a play. As I began to tell the team, my wife called. She told me I couldn’t run that play. We needed the money from a SuperBowl win. I had to choose. Win anyway?
The Captain arrived at his men’s group. He was really not in the mood to be heckled, not he knew he needed it. When it was his turn to receive criticism, he listened closely. Though much of it stung, he allowed it to take full effect.
