International politics is on fire these days. But sometimes the complexities of international politics may seem a bit out of reach for many folks. So try these 10 steps to make sense of international politics!
1. Start with some good films like "The Imitation Game" (2014), "Seven Days in May" (1964) etc.
2. Also some good TV shows like the "The West Wing" (1999–2006) or "Occupied."
3. Listen to @FareedZakaria's GPS
4. Read some of Robert D. Kaplan's several books. And Steve Coll's Ghost Wars is a must.
5. On Indian foreign policy, read @MohanCRaja's path-breaking books including Crossing The Rubicon. @ShivshankaMenon's two books are a must too. I like his latest one more though:)
6. Take a step back and read E.H. Carr's classic work Twenty Years' Crisis
7. Read The Tragedy of Great Power Politics by John Mearsheimer. Also watch his videos
8. Time to read some basic IR theory: Start with some less heavy-duty stuff like The Globalization of World Politics: An Introduction to International Relations edited by John Baylis et al. or International Relations Theories: Discipline and Diversity edited by by Tim Dunne et al.
9. Now time for some more classics: Kenneth Waltz's Man, the State, and War; Thomas Schelling's Arms and Influence; Geoffrey Blainey's The Causes of War, and more.
10. Don't forget to read some classic Kissinger!
PS: These are just starters of course. I can think of 100 more things to do. That's for another time!
