@KevinKalinows10@schrumbly@ZP33T It's not i/o stuff that's identifying. The ride computer has a counter that counts the number of dispatches per train, as there's a flagging assembly onboard. Say the manufacturer sets a maint. interval - you now cannot use the computer data for that anymore, and it may cause...
@paultrowntree No, I mean that just because it's drawn off the line that also happens to go to Loughborough Junction, doesn't mean that the two will be served by the same train. Only thing wrong with the diagram is your interpretation. It's not a service map.
@AilishSimpson@Irate_Jobbie@philydc3@AvantiWestCoast@_thisisscotland Yes, because it's a closer journey from London, more passengers are likely to use it at half 5 on their way home as far as Preston.
It's supply & demand. Also, you can't use the Motherwell tkt for Preston as it's an advance tkt. Doesn't matter that it's run on the same train.
@Irate_Jobbie@philydc3@AvantiWestCoast@_thisisscotland Do I? I've done my training (pun not intended), I'm not hypothesizing here, this is what I was taught. They may be the same train, but the arrival time dictates that it's a different product - the demand is completely different.
@AilishSimpson@Irate_Jobbie@philydc3@AvantiWestCoast@_thisisscotland With very different arrival times; the arrival time dictates whether a train is peak or off-peak. One could reasonably expect somebody to make a long-distance commute by this service from London to Preston, but not Motherwell, which is why there's a big difference in price.
@Irate_Jobbie@philydc3@AvantiWestCoast@_thisisscotland I'm not being dense. I used to work for that TOC. It may be the same train, but the arrival times are very different. That's what dictates peak vs off peak. One trip just about gets you home in time for late tea, the other one doesn't. Different market segments.
@philydc3@AvantiWestCoast@_thisisscotland They do get it, actually. It's just arriving before 9pm is still pretty much an evening commute, hence peak fares. Arriving at 11pm is a lot less convenient and hence isn't expected to be a heavily used journey flow, so is priced off peak. It's priced differently because it's...
