Condolences to Sam King JRโs family. Sam was a linebacker for me my first year at NMSU as the HC. I still have fond memories of his zeal for life. You will be missed by family and teammates who really cared for him. Rest in peace my man ๐๐พ
My condolences to the Ernie Accorsiโs family. Ernie gave me great confidence as a young coach back in 2002, 2003 when i was with the NYG. Ernie was a great GM. Respect and love Ernie. You will be missed ๐๐พ
Coaches, itโs amazing how so many players do not understand how to watch tape. We all have our personal styles, templates in our meetings. What i have learned, personalize your templates to each player, how he learns. More one on one meetings definitely helps ๐๐พ
Coaches, get around good coordinators. Good coordinators can help assistants get better. With better coaching, the players are getting better. Structure, Organization, IQ, Expectation, Development, are good traits. Good leadership with talented coaches, good formula ๐๐พ
How do we know if players really want it? If they are not harassing us to get better, do they really want it? Players have a tough decision to make. Trust us, or trust themselves? Phone calls, extra meetings, extra drills. It works best when we can do it together ๐๐พ
I was talking to a colleague about โThe Formulaโ. Whatโs the best formula for todayโs kids? My opinion, new school and old school. New school, genuine communication. Old school, genuine accountability. Perfecting these with a genuine approach, kids will respond. Keep it real๐๐พ
Years ago i was introduced to the disease of me. Players/Coaches, some will get to a stage of your careers experiencing success.
Please remember this, we are not bigger than the game. Some will experience success, care about others. The disease is deadly, be careful ๐๐พ
Players/Coaches, we never know when itโs our time. Everyday is an interview, i was once told. Whatever plan or formula we have must be genuine, to ourselves and others. The fake stuff, the agendas, betrayals, will always catch up to us. Winning is hard, stay true๐๐พ
I was talking to some coaches about players, โIs He A Guyโ? Trying to differentiate if some players like football, love football, or play because they are good at football. I read this, being addicted to results is an important trait to have. To be a guy, this matters ๐๐พ
Shout out to ASUโs Jordan Crook, signing in the CFL. God has his own plan, go get my man. Get in where you fit in. You will do great in that league ๐๐พ
Respect
In all my years, i believe we have to acknowledge this, are we respected by our players? There are different types of respect, respect the coach as a person, and respect the coaching. In a perfect world, we would like to accomplish both. Be real, work at coaching ๐๐พ
All my years of coaching, I have paid attention to this, โThe Rabbits Footโ. What it means is this, the universe has touched them. Detroit Lions, Keith Abney is that guy. I have been around this kid for three years, i am a believer. He will figure it out. So happy for him ๐๐พ
Another shoutout to Xavion Alford. Happy to see him getting an opportunity with the TB Bucs. Heโs healthy and excited to show what heโs capable of. Itโs not where you start, itโs where you finish ๐๐พ
One of my closest friends (Kirby Wilson) told me this. There are two words we must commit to before we actually grow as individuals, and as a team, โI Trustโ. Without trust, we have no chance to grow. Trust yourself, teammates, players, coaches. Trust is powerful ๐๐พ
I would be remiss not to mention Gunner Maldonado (K-State). Saw him when he was a baby at UA. Good luck to you as well. What a good group to follow, looking forward to it ๐๐พ
Another list of DBโs i have had the privilege to watch, see them develop into NFL prospects. Treydan Stukes, Dalton Johnson (UA), Tacario Davis, Ephesians Prysock (UW), Keith Abney, Nyland Green, Xavion Alford, Myles Rowser (ASU), LT Welch (UNLV). What a blessing fellas ๐๐พ
