Alarm-checking is a compulsion many people with OCD struggle with. It is in fact the third most-viewed article on the website, showing how many people struggle with this around the world.

@ddofinternet@bri_ish83 No one in the north calls them hurricanes, unless they don’t know the difference. Some people just aren’t knowledgable in certain topics, especially as we don’t have severe weather here. It’s the same issue we have with the difference between England, UK etc
Some parts of the process are a lot more involuntary than others. However, some actions feel a lot more subconscious than others, too. And many people don't feel a premonitory urge before some tics. It varies a lot for each tic in a person, and also from person to person.
I wanted to make a quick post about the use of the word 'involuntary' in Tourette syndrome. Not from an expert perspective but from someone with #Tourette and curious🧵
Tourette is a neurological disorder. The Neurological Alliance states that: "A neurological condition is any condition that affects the brain, spinal cord and/or nerves". It also describes Tourette syndrome as a "stable with changing needs" type of neurological condition.
If it is true that one-in-fifty people has a tic disorder, that's roughly 158 million people worldwide, or more than the entire population of Japan. If you have a tic disorder, you aren't alone! #ticdisorder#touretteawarenessmonth
Interestingly 50% of people say they have 'other' vocal tics than the ones listed, despite an already extensive list. It shows how varied and limitless tics can be. Want to participate? Share your experience at: https://t.co/wGR3nTzIKe
