BREAKING: Four animal rescuers have been charged with felony grand theft for rescuing Phoebe and Celia, two baby goats who were sick with respiratory infections on a Meyenberg goat dairy that supplies to Whole Foods.

An investigation in the spring of 2025 found that sick goats are denied adequate medical care, often either killed or left to slowly die. Reports to the Kings County District Attorney’s Office and other local law enforcement had led to no animal welfare enforcement actions.

When former ER Veterinary Technician Carla Cabral found Phoebe and Celia, emaciated and in respiratory distress, she knew they were at risk of ending up in Meyenberg’s ever-growing pile of dead mothers and babies.

Nearly a year later, the Kings County DA has decided to use its resources not to protect the goats still suffering from neglect and cruelty, but to prosecute the compassionate individuals who tried to stop it. The defendants are Carla, Sally, Joe and Taj.

We held a vigil for the animals suffering at Agresti Calf Ranch, a calf raising operation that is part of Double D Dairies which supplies to Clover Sonoma. DxE’s recent investigation of Double D captured footage of calves suffering multiple acts of criminal animal cruelty. #Dairy
