Exciting news! Dr. Monica Newton, founding program director of the Family Medicine residency program at NGMC is the new President of the Georgia Academy of Family Physicians (GAFP)!

Dr. Newton’s appointment reflects her longstanding dedication to medical education and community health. As a leader in family medicine, she has played a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of physicians through her work at NGMC and her involvement with GAFP. We are so proud of her! The Center for Simulation and Innovation was featured in Modern Healthcare recently, highlighting how video games and escape rooms are helping to train residents in several health systems around the country. Director of Clinical Skills and Simulation, Jim Rinehart, did a fantastic job explaining how NGHS leads in this innovative approach, specifically escape rooms used with our EM residents. #ngmcgme #hardwiredforexcellence

Many don’t realize that the first people Hitler sent to his concentration camps weren’t everyday Jewish citizens, but his political opponents. So, when Trump rants about retribution, locking up his opponents, and giving them “very long sentences,” I can’t help but take him seriously… because history teaches us that is what fascist dictators do during their “Day One” period to consolidate their power. (After all, if you’re hellbent on staying in power but aren’t likely to win the next election, you can’t have your political opponents running around free.)

Our Family Medicine residents are very excited to restart the Gainesville, GA Walk with a Doc walks! Patients, visitors, friends and family are all welcome to learn about interesting health topics while walking and talking with the residents - it's a great way to get your steps in while learning something new! Walks are on the first Saturday of each month, now through next June, at 10 a.m. at the Midland Greenway.

@Gaurang_MD Unfortunately, H1B visas are cost prohibitive for the institutions. This is the reason why a large number only offer sponsor of J1. It’s good to know what your end goal is so I appreciate that part of this post. H1B just means fewer programs to apply to.
