Kansas City is the site of a potential Messi vs. Ronaldo World Cup showdown. It's also the site of a $25.8 million, taxpayer-funded "World Cup Jail" — built by a company that constructed detainee facilities in Guantanamo Bay.
Which isn't even ready in time for the World Cup.
.@KansasCity and @MayorLucasKC blew past the deadline to release a Human Rights Action Plan on the World Cup yesterday with no statement or explanation.
In fact of all of the US host cities, Boston is the only one to have released the plan, which is required by FIFA.
Had the pleasure of hearing Dylan read this one at Metro Gallery during AWP. Told him @bruisermag is the place for hardcore punk lit. Read this one, it rules.
He screamed and hit himself in the forehead with a drumstick until he started bleeding. He drove us back from the city with bloodstains on his shirt.

@TheGreeneBJ I’m making no judgment on the tactic itself, but it’s hard to watch this misinformation spread. This is not what caused them to stop the sale, and it’s actually more important than ever to truly understand the impact of all the different strategies we’re using.
@TheGreeneBJ The sale to ICE had ALREADY been called off before this happened, after weeks of pressure campaigns from a variety of local organizers. This happened AFTER the entire city had already got word that the sale was off. For more context from the ground: https://t.co/zkcDhbPjhc
@colonizedlocal This video was apparently filmed by local news crews in real time, and could very well be part of a plan to distract from the power building that actually caused the sale to fall through—which again, it had already been announced that the deal was off. https://t.co/zkcDhbPjhc
@colonizedlocal I need to mention that this happened after the sale was already called off, which happened earlier the same day after weeks of pressure campaigns from local organizers.
Ok I need to address this:
Local organizers with labor orgs, abolitionist orgs and city elected officials in Kansas City have been organizing strategic campaigns against this facility for over a month!
This happened AFTER Platform Ventures, the capital firm that owns the warehouse, announced in a pissed off pouty statement that they weren't selling the warehouse to DHS. They cited "threats to their families" among other things meant to garner sympathy and slander the grassroots organizing that thwarted their plans. This person cares enough to catch an arson charge, but not enough to know the basic updates on this monumental development hours after the fact?
From everything I can tell, local news filmed this! KMBC was on the scene reporting on the aforementioned announcement and this person walked up in broad daylight in flip flops in February and did this on camera. You can tell from the camera movement this is a big camera all the way zoomed in on a tripod.
Stop giving this lady credit for cancelling the sale! Individual action will not save us, and it didn't here. Coordinated, collective, strategic action is what stopped this deal. Dumbass shit like this has incredibly high potential to blow back on the organizers who actually stopped this, and honestly I wouldn't put it past DHS or this capital firm to do this themselves to shape their narrative.
Birkenstocks, no mask, broad daylight, filmed while it’s happening yet nobody arrested, matches and bbq lighter fluid.
But most importantly, this happened hours AFTER an organized campaign WON and the owners of this facility said they would not sell to DHS.
Sus as fuck tbh.
I hate that we have to do this again but y’all realize they pick the ones who might be dangerous and give them the Super Bowl to neutralize them, right?
@IrishBarrister@celisa_mia Difference between owning the building and owning the business inside the building. The city is more the landlord. They did not own or operate the store.
Comparing KC's subsidized grocery store to the DMV is ironically very accurate.
Just like Missouri DMVs, the store is *not* government-ran. Both have a pointless private middleman that just makes it shittier
Ring cameras are partnering with Axon (makers of police body cameras, among other police tech) to make a new feature that allows people to opt-in to police being able to live-stream everything the doorbell camera sees AND allow police to request footage directly from users
