Physics and science communication on the internet is struggling due to misinformation like this. This is misinformation created and spread by the uneducated/ignorant. It says nothing about the health of the real physics community of which I was a part. Whilst I don’t think it’s currently healthy, I still think it’s directly and indirectly involved in every breakthrough in (objectively repeatable) science and tech still - you just have to realise behind every great breakthrough is usually new tech or math that directly or indirectly came from new physics. For example the recent major innovation in ai diffusion models were due to applying some statistical mechanics things in a machine learning landscape.

Thanks for sharing it around. Yeh, it might sound wild if you don't know anything about post-quantum cryptography, but PQC is a well researched academic field. Have a read here: https://t.co/4qdoKxIINa. We're simply using one of these PQ algorithms to encrypt users data! It's actually quite simple. They kinda just pose complex mathematical problems that we don't know how to solve. Thus, doesn't matter how powerful your quantum computer is. It becomes a problem if a math guru finds a solution though... But then you simply change algos.
