Burzum is a good case study for why the circumstances in which art is created can sometimes matter more than the artist himself. Because at his core, Varg has probably not changed or developed all that much, and he even makes it incredibly difficult for me - someone who once knew him fairly well - not to constantly cringe on his behalf.
But he recorded his legendary and classic albums at a time when his most irritating personality traits had not yet been able to fully manifest themselves. The nerdy and autistic Varg of 1992/1993 could only truly express and realize himself in the studio. In 2026, however, he can also do that on TikTok and elsewhere, and as a result his music has become practically nonexistent while his most exhausting character traits come through in full force.
Take the internet away from him and put a guitar back into his hands!
Trialed by fire simply the best song on the EP. Has some post rock/post bm elements, a little progressive approach in composition and the classic D.666 formula
