Most people don't know that before Bukola Saraki became a governor or Senate President, he was a qualified medical doctor who practiced at Rush Green Hospital in Essex, UK. A man who could've stayed abroad and built a comfortable career chose to come back and serve Nigeria. That background probably explains why healthcare reform was central to everything he did in Kwara.
Happy Children’s Day to every Nigerian child. You are, without question, the best of us, and full of the kind of hope this country sorely needs.
But I won’t pretend today is one of unclouded joy. Even as many celebrate, there are parents in this country who do not know where their children are. Children abducted from their homes and schools, still in the hands of their captors.
My prayer today is that those children are rescued safely and soon, and that we, as a country, finally find the resolve to make sure no family ever has to live through such a nightmare again.
May the Almighty protect our children. Ameen.

On Saturday afternoon, I had the honour of joining The Fern Table, an intimate gathering hosted by Fern Capital Group in Lagos, at the kind invitation of Tola Sunmonu-Balogun, @McKinsey Associate Partner, bringing together a remarkable group of women across generations to speak honestly and openly about investing, women's health, and the power of collective capital. I was glad to have by my side my daughter, Dr Teniola Saraki MBBS, Founder of Built For Her Foundation, a women's health advocate and physician present on her own merit, and my special guest, Mrs Fola Laoye, Chief Executive of Iwosan.
Fern Capital is a women-led, female capital-focused fund, co-founded by Dr Afua Basoah and Dr Abigail Osei-Kumi, investing in early-stage, clinically validated, technology-enabled solutions for conditions that disproportionately affect women, across the United Kingdom, Europe, and Africa. Women make up 51% of the global population and drive 80% of healthcare spending, yet less than 4% of research and development funding is allocated to women's health. That is the gap Fern Capital was established to close, and it is one I have continued to work to address through my @WellbeingAfrica Foundation.
As a Champion of the World Economic Forum @WEF Global Alliance for Women's Health, I carry a standing mandate to mobilise multi-stakeholder action, as the McKinsey Health Institute and #WEF have placed the economic case squarely on the table: closing the women's health gap represents a USD 1 trillion opportunity for the global economy annually by 2040. What gatherings like The Fern Table make possible is the translation of that evidence into capital, commitment, and community, and the recognition that women investing together, intergenerationally, is one of the most formidable forces available to us.
To the Fern Capital team, thank you. Conversations like this one are how change is made.

The news that Teslimat Abiola Nurudeen, a final-year student at Kwara State University @KwasuOfficial, has become the first undergraduate from the university to complete a solo flight is exactly the kind of harvest we envisioned years ago.
On April 20, 2026, she flew a 24-minute circuit at Ilorin International Airport.
When we established KWASU and the International Aviation College during my tenure as Governor of Kwara State, our goal was human capital development. It was about equipping the next generation of Kwarans and Nigerians with the skills to compete in the most specialised sectors of the global economy.
Seeing a young woman from the Department of Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering take to the skies today validates the difficult but necessary decisions we made to prioritise education and specialised infrastructure.
The journey ahead must now be about returning Kwara to this culture of excellence. We must not just focus on building for today, but for generations that will follow.
Congratulations, Teslimat!

The Best Senate President Ever!
We once had a Senate President in Dr. Bukola Saraki who initiated policies that could stabilize & grow our economy.
He prevented the extortion & expropriation of the private sector.
This man, Dr. Bukola Saraki was the reason why the first 4 years of the Buhari government was bearable.

‘Dirty politics taken too far’ — Saraki tackles Kwara governor over Offa robbery charges
Bukola Saraki, the former senate president, has tackled AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, governor of Kwara, over the criminal charges filed against him and three individuals by the state government.
Saraki described the action of the Kwara government as a “frivolous move and an abuse of court process to embarrass my person”.
