@sflorimm Bearcave one of the first online rooms you could talk to random people, say anything make friends. I went to a real wedding from people who met in a text room. This was back when getting to the internet was an international call to new york at a £1 per minute
A rape case was dropped 13 days before trial.
Years later, an independent review found it should have gone ahead.
But by then, it was too late.
Here's why that matters.
A woman reported a rape.
Three and a half years later, she was preparing for trial.
Then the CPS dropped the case.
The reason? A sexsomnia defence.
The case would never be heard by a jury.
Most people thought that was the end.
It wasn't.
She requested a Victim's Right to Review.
An independent Chief Crown Prosecutor reviewed the decision.
The conclusion was extraordinary.
The case should never have been dropped.
In fact, the review found it was more likely than not that a jury would have convicted.
But there was a devastating problem.
The CPS had already offered no evidence in court.
Double jeopardy meant the case could never be reopened.
The decision was found to be wrong.
The outcome could not be changed.
So she sued the CPS.
The CPS apologised.
They paid damages.
They changed policy.
And today, there is a pilot scheme that gives victims an option for a review before rape cases are dropped.
That woman was me.
My case can't be put back before a jury.
But others shouldn't have to hear that a case should have gone to trial only after it's too late to do anything about it.
That's why I'm campaigning for victims to have a review before cases are dropped.
And for the current pilot to become permanent.
Not after.
When it's too late.

Since I'm 6 drinks in for 20 bucks, let me tell you all about the story of how the first Microsoft Office 2007 vulnerability was discovered, or how it wasn't.
This was a story I was gonna save for a book but fuck it, I ain't gonna write it anyways.
@bexcran@divinetechygirl@bexcran yes on latest low power Nest with modern c wire power system, but not on older systems where parisitic power was taken for relays but is not enough for wifi thermostat.
@divinetechygirl Need power so ugly wire going up wall from wall socket, can be avoided but in most areas you will need an electrician for that. There are lots of online videos and little chance of you doing damage. if you dont know how to safely isolate your heat get a pro shouldn't cost a lot
@divinetechygirl Used to be with nest it was difficult to order without install ymmv. Having said that it's a 2, 3 or 4 wire system depending on your setup isolate take existing off photo and record wiring check manual of old thermostat and should be easy to wire new. You will on almost all 1/2
First time I hear about it is the day it closes and it's a push poll slanted towards the desired answer. You don't want to push business out of city centres with more tax and barriers you want vibrant city centres that people want to travel to easily in whichever way best suits
The costs of congestion and pollution in Edinburgh are significant. A workplace parking levy could help reduce traffic in the city while improving alternative modes of transport. Share your views in our survey, it closes today! https://t.co/tNGXhsRymX
@VolvoCarUK happened again on latest fw update stranded and spent £50 on taxis - the critical system that stopped car rebooting properly? Offside parking cameras - your software sucks
Just hopping online real quick to educate folks on token lifetimes. Unless you are managing sign in frequency through conditional access here is pretty much what you get.
TLDR; You get some serious dwell time depending on org maturity.
