@TastyDeaths@MudkipNerd_ Singapore, Japan at least. Vietnam too tbh, though rail transport is not yet developed. Haven't lived in other places like China so can't comment
@lianda_edu damn I had no idea. So the Lee family could have had two micro-theorists associated with Harvard. It's a good thing that LHL chose to become a practitioner instead. Huge respect for ppl who know all the math and decide that not a lot of math is needed to be useful.
@lianda_edu yeah the more mathy econ stuff does not seem to be that helpful. But for eg. the technocrats in SG do think with an econ framework quite often. See for example https://t.co/hjTifLjwMM
@vnvnvnvnvnv12 I think because people who lived under Confucianism have already gone through a period of intense self-criticism. So we no longer see Confucianism as sacred and beyond reproach anymore. Maybe there's no equivalent in Hindu socities?
@noggingnogger@LindyTasteful well I am not American so I am just basing my judgement on the syllabi of the courses. If even electrical engineering has become easy then America is doomed
@yjsali@Hashbergers@yoxics Americans can have it so good sometimes. In most countries there is very little better than a job that pays the equivalent to 200k-300k usd in America.
@trimurti_9@kage_urufu In Việt Nam only about 40-35% of high school students choose to take the exam of a natural science subject in our version of gaokao. This is a cause of concern because it does not align with the govt's strategy to invest in high-tech industries.
@fullautoslurs my mother unironically thinks like this so she is very disappointed that I dropped out of a Masters program to find a job (and I did find a job)
@BigBreakfastLob To continue an analogy with engineering, should banking knowledge to economists have the same status as mechanics to engineers (that is, core knowledge)? Also within banking some knowledge might be more core than others
@BigBreakfastLob In some countries like Vietnam "Banking" is its own degree. It shares common courses (micro, macro, math for econ i.e. optimization, etc) with degrees that have "Economics" in the name. A bit similar to how different engineering degrees have common courses then diverge.
@sheeeeeeeeeed@Souvie you still need to know enough Chinese and have valuable skills to get employed. without those your love for communism does not matter
