@DrEilidhMaria Looks like it’s been removed now. I thought it was more a reflection on them and called it out amongst others. Hope you enjoy GP placement ☺️
10/10 experience @ManchesterREH eye hospital today. Used eye ED, seen in <1hr & 2x advanced practitioners I saw v knowledgable & levelled w/me as fellow HCP.
Also shout out to @EyecareServices GM CUES - spoke to them at 2100 last night and they WhatsApped me to check in this AM
@rosieICM Thoughts for Clive:
- FTE in GP is 9 sessions not 10
- I wonder if Clive knows hrs of standard day in GP if so would he still call it “part-time”
- if a GP treating Clive made an error due to working excess hours, would Clive say “it’s ok at least you were in work, I won’t sue”
Conservatives are promising 100 GP surgeries
In 2010, there were 8,458 GP surgeries
In 2024, there are 6,311 GP surgeries
So 2,147 GP surgeries have closed since the Conservatives took office in 2010, and they are trying to entice you with 100?
Have some self respect and vote for Labour, LibDem, Green, SNP, Plaid Cymru, whichever candidate will remove your Conservative MP
I repeat…
Patients can’t get all appointments with their GPs.
2000 fewer GPs than 10 years ago
Yet newly qualified GPs can’t find work in the NHS
This is a political choice and agenda driven by DoH and NHS E.
If you feel you and your loved ones deserve better - make some noise
My new work colleague in Bolton is finishing her GP training soon, she is coming off the local VTS scheme. She told me only she and one other colleague have found jobs, the rest are jobless and are really worried about the future. That must be about 20 unemployed GPs from one scheme?
Why is this allowed to happen @VictoriaAtkins ?! Disgraceful.
@wesstreeting
@DrEilidhMaria My husband is a solicitor. All exam fees and course fees paid for by firm. Meanwhile I’m here having just paid >£1000 for my GP exit exam…and paying for the privilege of CCT-ing
For the last 14 years as an NHS doctor, I have watched this party, these governments, savage the NHS into a crumbling shell of a once great institution. Deliberate, calculated, shameless destruction.
Only one thing to say. Please, if you still want an NHS, do not vote Tory.
We frequently see this with 1ary care as piggy in the middle
- trying to refer in acutely
- trying to get a patient seen in OP
Thanks for continually interesting & thought provoking podcast 🙌🏻
@DrBenLovell@AmieBurbridge
Listening to #homeofmedicinepodcast ep about urinary retention in pregnancy
Reflecting on discussion re: bandwidth taken up w/back&forth between specialities “this patient isn’t for us”
…it’s bad in 2ary care. Now imagine being the GP trying to manage this daily in 10min
@nickgraynews As a doctor, let me say: the patient mindset in the waiting room (“Why is this taking so long?? Why can’t they stick to time?”) and the patient mindset IN the room (“Of course I can ask 20 questions, this is my health, don’t rush me!!”) are a huge issue here.
New hyper-focus: Home of Medicine Podcast by @DrBenLovell & @AmieBurbridge ✨
I’m not an acute medic; but the lessons I have learned as a (soon to be) GP from the generalist chit chat, diagnostic dilemmas & honest human factors deep-dive 🙌🏻
