Hi Scott,

I am a family member of one of the people you photographed and posted about earlier in relation to social media addiction in Thailand.

After you posted identifiable photos of my family member without asking for consent, my sister replied to your post and explicitly asked you to remove the photos. You later deleted the post, but you never responded to her, provided any explanation, or offered any apology.

What makes this more serious is that the post was published from your verified account and received extremely high engagement, reaching close to one million views and interactions. I do not know what your intention was in posting those photos or making broader comments about social media use in Thailand, but using identifiable strangers as examples for your personal commentary without speaking to them or asking for permission shows a serious lack of respect for their privacy and personal boundaries.

This is not simply a matter of manners. Thailand has personal data and privacy laws, including the PDPA, and the publication and use of identifiable images of individuals can raise legal issues depending on the circumstances. Your post also exposed my family member to a very large online audience without their consent.

Deleting the post does not undo the fact that it was already publicly distributed and viewed by a significant number of people. Our family believes that, at the very least, you owe the people you photographed a direct and sincere apology, as well as an explanation for what happened.

I am asking you to contact us and address this properly. If we receive no response, explanation, or apology, we are prepared to consult our lawyer and consider the appropriate legal action regarding the publication and use of these images.

I hope you will take responsibility for this matter and respond appropriately. 😊
