BREAKING: United Auto Workers today passed a resolution at its convention, 321-287, to divest from Israeli bonds.
With nearly 400,000 members, UAW becomes the largest US union to officially divest from Israel.
The vote received support from a range of sectors, including a large number of Michigan auto delegates, in addition to legal services and higher education.
The original call for divestment came from a wildcat strike of 2,000 mainly Arab American workers at Chrysler’s Dodge Main in 1973. Amid the genocide in Gaza, pro-Palestinian labor groups and UAW locals renewed and intensified their campaign.
Speakers motivated for the resolution by citing the union’s legacy of divesting from South African apartheid in 1978.
1. I went to Jewish school from kindergarten to 12th grade
2. I come from a deeply Zionist family
3. I’ve been to Israel on a number of occasions, including to places that border the West Bank.
I’m an anti-Israel Jew. It’s a genocidal apartheid state. Sue me
The most powerful democrat in the country does not support the MOU and ending hostilities with Iran. Not coincidently Schumer (1) is the only democrat in the senate who opposed Obama’s 2015 Iran Deal and (2) told the NYT last year his job was to “keep the left pro-Israel”
It only took a the worst military defeat since Vietnam, spiking inflation & gas prices, farmers without fertilizer & cratering approval ratings to tell a country of 9 million people to back off.

Notice the outrage in her voice at the idea that any country other than Israel has a right to defend itself. These are the same anchors who say that Israel can attack any country and take their land because of … their right to defend themselves!
Trump waged an illegal war of aggression against a country that didn't attack us and bombed schools, hospitals, bridges, steel plants and all kinds of civilian infrastructure. The "deal" is a surrender document. We absolutely should surrender in shame and disgrace. The problem is Netanyahu is already rat fucking the deal and there's virtually no chance Trump sticks to the terms.
imagine if prominent democrats were saying these objectively true statements for the last couple of years especially after israel goaded this dipshit admin into waging war w iran that we lost. imagine how much more credibility the dems would have at this moment?
instead, they offered silly process criticisms while legitimizing the false rationale for waging war, actively tried to deplatform their antizionist left flank, and now maga will get to abdicate responsibility for its fuckups and dump it on israel while the dems shit on the mou.
JD Vance is not changing the conversation about Israel in the US. He is changing the entire paradigm:
He is reminding the Israelis that they are alone and - though he doesn't use this word - much disliked internationally. Israel should not undermine the only strong friend they have left.
"If I was in the cabinet of the Israeli government, I might not be attacking the only powerful ally that I have left."
And, he is reminding them of their utter dependence on the United States.
Because 2/3 of the weapons that have protected Israel (!!) "have been built by American hands and paid for by American tax dollars."
As a point of comparison, no one in the Biden admin ever spoke like this about Israel when Netanyahu was blowing through Biden's so-called red lines on Gaza...
iran won. not yesterday. it won when it closed the strait of hormuz after we attacked. something they refused to do through decades of us sanctions and israeli and american meddling. they were willing to do diplomacy the entire time. people should stop demanding more war.
Ta-Nehisi Coates: “I don’t know how you remain consistent by claiming an anti-apartheid legacy here in the United States of America while enforcing it abroad.”
Coates told Chris Hayes that the Democratic Party cannot continue avoiding the issue of Gaza and Palestine, saying the party is already facing a political and moral reckoning ahead of 2028.
It’s wild how they suddenly remember all these other uses for money when it comes to ending a war, but not when the Pentagon requests a $1.5 trillion annual budget.
Some common-sense things Trump said today that were nevertheless shocking:
Everybody else has ballistic missiles, why can’t Iran?
The frozen money belonged to Iran, and the U.S. needed to release it otherwise nobody would trust the dollar system. Why should we steal their money?
Neighboring countries use nuclear power for electricity, why can’t Iran?
Israel shouldn’t knock down entire buildings in Beirut every time a drone or two crashes harmlessly in the desert.
Trump would’ve become Herbert Hoover in a few weeks once oil ran out and the market crashed. He had no choice but to end the war.
The ceasefire agreement with Iran with the opening of the Strait of Hormuz is welcome news. Democrats should support it. I am glad it includes a provision for mutual respect of the US & Iran's sovereignty so we do not launch a dumb war of choice again.
The war was a costly lesson for the US. As expected, Trump failed to bring about regime change. The terms seem no better than what Obama secured under the JCPOA nearly a decade ago. America lost 14 precious service members and wasted billions of dollars on this foolish endeavor.
But today, we can be relieved that gas and food costs will start coming down for Americans. And that no more American or civilian lives will be lost.
It also shows that when the Congress votes to end war --as we did last week -- it can be a wake up call for the President to listen to the anti-war sentiments of the American people.
SERIOUS QUESTION: Why is it that actual human jobs like baker, florist, teacher, and childcare worker barely pay a livable wage, while fakė jobs like AI specialist bootlicker, marketing campaign parasite, and synergy consultant are pulling six figures ??
