One time at a fellowship induction ceremony the woman at the door greeting asked the White student in front of me for their name so they could retrieve their nametag and then asked me if I was "The help."
I went back to my dorm and sobbed until I vomited #BlackintheIvory
If you are a white academic, the most important thing you can do today is enter #BlackintheIvory in Search Twitter. Read every one. Don't pretend you are surprised. At some level, you knew. Ask yourself what you've done about it. Then decide what you are going to do about it now.
#BlackInTheIvory is respectfully nodding and smiling at all the janitorial staff as you make rounds in the hospital. “What’s up, Doc?!” is more than just asking how you are. It’s also saying “I’m proud of you for making it.”

-You didn’t deserve that mistreatment
-You’re not flawed, the system is flawed

A WW asked how my hair grew so fast. I replied "We don't comment on Black women's hair anymore." She cried while another WW told me she grew up in a small town and didn't know better. She knew enough to get into a master's program though 🤔 #BlackintheIvory#WWtearsareviolence
