Patients expressed strong support for the advancement of clinical trials in our recent Xenotransplantation Voice of the Patient report. It is gratifying to know they're being heard. Congratulates to eGenesis on this milestone! https://t.co/njie33Lw3j
1/ Xenotransplantation has reached a major milestone: the @US_FDA approved the first human trials for pig kidney transplants, led by @eGenesisBio in the Lux family.
Amazing what eGenesis has accomplished with xenotransplantation. Now with FDA clearance for clinical trials, we're getting closer to helping thousands waiting for kidney organs. Today, the company discussed patient no. 3 — Bill Stewart. More on CNN:

When David Bennet Sr. received the first #CRISPR-edited pig heart in 2022, I was skeptical. Over the years, I've spoken with @eGenesisBio CEO Mike Curtis, PhD, several times, always impressed by his resolute precision—he's not selling snake oil. So, when I got to chat with Curtis last week to learn about the news that came out today with updates on the most recent kidney transplant recipients and on getting FDA clearance for clinical trials, I had two reactions. On the one hand, I was stunned because how can you not be stunned when someone goes from being on dialysis and in a wheelchair with no hope of survival to throwing the first pitch at a @RedSox game? On the other hand, it was Mike Curtis providing me with another unhyped update that is definitely worth the hype. As Curtis put it, “It's one of those things where it happens slowly and quickly.”

In June, I was at a Boston Red Sox game where 67-yr old Tim Andrews threw out the ceremonial 1st pitch. His liberty came in the form of having been free of dialysis for nearly 5 months after receiving a genetically edited pig kidney in January. - @MassBio
