Ireland’s planned ban on under-18s riding electric scooters has been delayed after legal advice found that new primary legislation will be required before the age limit can be increased.
The Irish Government had planned to raise the minimum legal age for riding an e-scooter from 16 to 18 during August 2026, as part of a wider package of measures aimed at reducing serious injuries and improving enforcement.
