The volume Linguacultural Spaces, published just over a month ago, includes chapters based on talks from the BoGlaTil symposium in 2022. Of the 8 chapters, four are from University of Glasgow PhD students (Emma Bódig, Xuan Cao, Anaïs Delcol, Erin McInerney)!
On May 1st, 2017 I received my acceptance letter to @Columbia. I recall waking up in France to a feeling of total elation. This morning, I have been in a sense of total dysphoria as I read of Columbia’s gross mishandling of the Gaza Solidarity Encampment.
Judith Butler wraps up very neatly the clashing worlds that I (& perhaps others) have inhabited as a language scholar issue of hyper-conservative, religious upbringing. Amidst the ideological dissonance, some empathy for those who feel cast adrift by language change can endure.
The next session of the ISSMDA @civis_eu/@MFOxford seminar will welcome Erin McInerney (@unistra/@UofGlasgow) on 9 November 2023: “Playing Parisian: The discursive construction of self and place at Instagram’s @CafédeFlore”

Catastrophic week for the #Paris council: ordering the dismantling of book stalls for the Olympics, then massacring century-old trees in late July when few will notice. The four trees in the Montparnasse square below are gone. Pretext: assessing risk for our 'security'. Shameful.
Tomorrow @RobJBlackwood will be speaking about the linguistic landscape of St-Pierre-et-Miquelon.
Join us for the final lecture in our series at 14:30 | BST 15:30 CET.
