If you ever find yourself in Kamwenge needing justice, chances are Afande Namyalo Khadija is already a few steps ahead, making sure the right thing is done. She works in the Police Family and Child Protection Unit, where she spends her days ensuring that women and girls who have faced violence get the justice they deserve.
Afande Khadija is not the type to sit behind a desk waiting for reports to come in—she is always on the move. From deep in the villages, leading community dialogues, to radio stations spreading awareness on SGBV laws and referral systems, she makes sure even the most remote communities know their rights and where to seek help.
Beyond raising awareness, she ensures cases are properly documented, so perpetrators do not slip through the cracks of the system. She also assists lower police posts in handling SGBV cases with a survivor-centered approach because, as she loves to put it, “Justice should not depend on location.”
But her work goes beyond safety; she also knows that a financially independent woman is less likely to stay in an abusive situation. She works closely with organizations to equip women and girls with financial skills so they can build sustainable livelihoods.
Today, as we celebrate women making a difference, we are proud to shine a light on Afande Khadija for her commitment, her resilience, and for proving that true service means showing up where people need you most. If Uganda had more people like her in the system, justice would not be something you have to fight for, it would simply be what it is supposed to be.
Happy Women’s Day to Afande Khadija and all the incredible women serving our communities.

Ms. Tendo Namata, the Executive Director of @Embiboinitiativ, has highlighted the significant achievements during the #PISSCA project:
❝We successfully established a Drop-In Center (DIC) and enhanced services for Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) and Key Populations (KPs) by linking them to essential resources like PREP, PEP, ART, STI/UTI testing, treatment, and contraceptives.
We have forged strong linkages and partnerships with health facilities, initiated school health clubs, and actively participated in district health committees.
Our efforts also included providing harm reduction training to health workers to address stigma and discrimination, implementing Feminist Rural Academy (FERA) initiatives, forming PREP and PEP groups, engaging in strategic planning, and continuing our impactful peer-to-peer outreach activities.❞

Sad to report that Michael Gambon, who played Albus Dumbledore in the last six Harry Potter films, has sadly passed away at the age of 82.
Please raise your wands for Michael and all of his family and friends during this difficult time. May he rest in peace.
All people including sex workers are entitled to a full range of SRHR services and information.
We had a peer to peer safe space with AGYW in sex work to hear their voices on what matters in the work we are doing.
