I’m tired of being quiet on this issue. I will be silent no more.
I’ve got two PhDs in education related fields. I’ve spent my career as a high school, K-5, and university teacher. I’ve served at large public schools and small private schools.
I’ve worked with exceptional minds, behavioral challenges, and students with special needs and learning exceptionalities.
I’ve been there. In the trenches.
And I’m sick to death of stupid standardized test scores killing our children’s desire to learn.
We are KILLING their creativity, their literacy, their empathy, and their ability to connect with adult relationships.
We have sent them running to their screens.
We have lost a generation of kids by testing them nearly to death.
I can’t stand by and watch another generation burn.
Both private and public schools:
Stop the obsession with technology initiatives. Put the money back into good teachers and sound pedagogy.
Stop the obsession with drill-and-kill testing.
Stop doping up kids who can’t - or won’t - stay confined in their little cages. Let kids move and breathe and laugh and talk and explore.
Stop the catastrophic loss of PE and movement, trades, theater, music, reading hard literature, and art in schools— all of the things that make life worth living.
Stop the assault on actual learning.
I’ll be silent no more.
Our kids are at stake.

When life stirs up feelings of uncertainty, fear and exhaustion, let's hold on to the hope of Psalm 145:18, “The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.”
Our hard times can be holy times, close-to-God times. And wherever God is, good is being worked.
