I am on a one-woman mission to remind everyone that EA includes:
-vegan and wants a good future for the animals
-donates 10% to effective climate charities
-tiny biosecurity charity
-government peeps
-works a 9 to 5 and buys bed nets
-and so many more
The EA forum is basically tied with the Fine Homebuilding forum in uses of the term "load-bearing". 2995 for the EA forum vs 3029 for Fine Homebuilding
In 2017 I was convinced AI timelines were <5 years so I cashed in my 401k and blew away the money and let me tell you this particular form of intellectual consistency is Not Recommended
Thinking about alternative routes to AI safety. Know about MATS and similar but heard this Chicago math grad is working w Anthropic via the Catholic Church, wonder if anyone has suggestions
Have you seen the new AI safety paper? It's on Guidelight. It's literally on Forethought. You can probably find it on Foresight. Dude it's at Coefficient. Just go to the Future of Life. It's hosted at Lighthaven. It's on Longview. Just open Conjecture. It's at Elicit.
Update from EAG: a lot of people lurk on here
If you have even the slightest inclination or curiosity, you should probably at least try posting (ideally under your real name/identity IMO)
me lifting boxes to help the EAG team: tickets to the gun show are no longer free. They will be sold at market rate and the proceeds will be donated to GiveWell
EAGx turns 10 today!
I ran this programme for a few years, and scaling it up is one of my proudest professional accomplishments.
I'm hugely grateful for all of the organizers who put in the work every year to get more people working on pressing problems
