Algal #biofilm is morphologically complex across spatial scales. How does the patchiness of biofilms affect flow over a biofouled surface? New paper ⬇️⬇️ uses PIV (lasers 🥽+ shiny particles 🪩) to experimentally investigate #turbulence over #biofouling.

@fishphysiology Also shoutout to the organizers of #ISBE2022 for providing onsite childcare, which allowed me to attend (and my kids are having THE BEST time).
The engineering effects of #oyster reefs modified the abundance of #infauna at distances up to 40 m from reefs, while changes in local flow more likely explained the distribution of #sediment composition https://t.co/4PFj11Ha9b
@ProfEmilyOster My kid has been going to preschool this whole time in Sweden. I know this data has issues, but at the very least it shows that teachers of young children are unlikely to be getting very sick, whether due to teacher demographics or children being less likely to catch or spread it.
@limnosarah Woah those 3 cores! It’s surprising (to me, maybe just because I’m new to lake sediment) that they are so different. And is it normal to have oxic sediment like that in lakes?
