You can't win if you don't first step up to the ring!!
Today's Google decision shows we need more people like Kanter and @linakhanFTC to enforce the law, and why Wall Street is so afraid of them.
@matthewstoller You can't lose if you don't first take the issues to court. The fact that Khan is at least fighting the fights is a good thing, that's how the standards are changed, in court. Is Wall Street delusional or afraid?
There's a good argument that Capital One is buying Discover because of a legal loophole created by the Federal Reserve.

@kouroshshafi @zingales There's also this amazing three part series from 2018, including the very good Part 2 episode with Lina Khan.

Not only fun. This may be a once in a lifetime opportunity to work with a brilliant economist and amazing teacher, doing research that will most likely be groundbreaking.
@RBReich Don't forget regulatory, judicial and academic capture to maintain market power "moats", rubberstamp harmful consolidations, push anti-consumer 'deregulation', redefine the meaning of anti trust, and defund agencies in charge of supervising and protecting consumers.
@pitdesi As someone who lived in a country with similar MLFT risks and regulation (which I helped write), made urgent by a similar problem with drugs...The rules that prevent you from handing 60,000 cash to someone are working as intended, and even required by even the US.
@pitdesi So around USD 60,000 to a vendor that only takes cash?? In México?? Tell them to open up an account with a Mexican Bank and you will transfer the money and they can do the rest. They can handle the KYC, AMLFT and tax reporting on their end, instead of shifting the risk to you.
.@linakhanFTC is steering the FTC to protect working families and honest businesses with stronger law enforcement against corporate actors.
Our latest factsheet details the @FTC's accomplishments under her leadership. The record speaks for itself.

@PeterContiBrown@TheStalwart "Taylor didn't promote potentially unregistered securities" and "Maybe the SEC exists so I don't get scammed!!" is honestly the most exposure that normal common people without the privilege of a financial/investment education will have to securities regulation.
@PeterContiBrown@TheStalwart We also need a cute story to relay the importance of people asking the right questions when it comes to risky investments and what type of regulation exists to protect retail investors.
@TheStalwart How do you know she isn't reading FT/Bloomberg in her spare time and knew the debate? She has dug dug into the music royalty vultures and how those funds work. Is it a stretch to believe she read something and asked: "Will I be driving people to invest in unregulated securities"
@katiecannon2@doctorow Just realized Roberts uses: "exigent circumstances", the same words in the Federal Reserve Act 13(3) provision that allowed the "at par" discount window after SVB
Why does Roberts decide what is "exigent" instead of the Education Secretary? What about Powell's decision?
@AnthonyLeeZhang At this point the better advice would be to run away from anyone that claims to have "solved" tokenomics, even if they have a Finance PhD.
@matthewstoller Thanks!! Yeah, @CreditSlips should've been my first though on where to find more information. I'll start with that.

@horsewater What if you don't "fundamentally" disagree with that, but think there is more nuance in your generalization about Capitalism?
What if crypto makes sense precisely because you disagree with that statement?
