@ixixc3 بس ما عمري شفت أحد ياخذ ١٢ نوع! آلية عمل الأدوية النفسية مختلفة، دمج ١٢ نوع مختلفة ممكن يسبب تداخل دوائي خصوصًا أنها كانت تعاني من أعراض ثنائي القطب ( هوس) و يفاقم عندها الاعراض!

@ixixc3 لو قريتي كلام الدكتور اللي ارسلته قبل كان شفتي أنها كانت تعاني من اضطراب ثنائي القطب ( اللي يكون فيه نوبات هوس) و ذهان بعد الولادة، و قبل أيام فقط من قتل أطفالها عانت من تدهور شديد.. و كانت تاخذ أكثر من 12 نوع من الأدوية! هذا كله ما تشوفينه مؤشر على تدهور عقلي شديد!

Dr. Phillip Resnick classifies Lindsay Clancy’s case as both Altruistic and Acutely Psychotic Filicide.

These are my notes from his testimony. I tried to capture his wording as accurately as possible, but some portions are paraphrased rather than verbatim.

Resnick evaluated Lindsay about four months after the killings. He spent roughly three hours interviewing her and another 1 hour and 50 minutes interviewing her parents at Tewksbury.

He described Lindsay as matter-of-fact, but said she was medicated and had a blunted affect: her feelings and tone were muted.

He also said nurses reported that Lindsay was crying daily over the loss of her children.

Resnick also reviewed Dr. Heilbrun’s MMPI testing. His interpretation was that Lindsay did not minimize or exaggerate her symptoms and that there was no evidence she was faking.

Resnick’s diagnosis

He diagnosed Lindsay with Bipolar II disorder with severe depression and said she was clearly psychotic on January 24, 2023.

He acknowledged that postpartum psychosis eight months after childbirth is unusual, but testified that it can occur and characterized Lindsay’s illness as having postpartum onset.

He also stressed that psychosis can wax and wane. In his opinion, Lindsay did not need to be psychotic every minute of that day. She could still function, communicate and even have what appeared to be a better day while remaining seriously mentally ill.

The voice

Resnick explained that some auditory hallucinations are command hallucinations; voices instructing a person to do something. Many commands are benign, while others can involve dangerous acts, including killing.

But his opinion went beyond Lindsay simply hearing a command.

He testified that she also experienced what he called an idea or delusion of influence; the belief that an outside force had taken control of her body.

He described that, due to her mental disease, Lindsay was unable to conform her conduct to the requirements of the law on the day she took the lives of her children. She was hearing a voice which was commanding her to engage in the killing behavior and she did not feel any sense of control. She felt that she had to obey the instructions she was hearing. It was a matter where which she was just following the command rather than being able to make any decision to do it or not.

Criminal responsibility

Resnick discussed the two components relevant to criminal responsibility:

1. The ability to conform one’s conduct to the requirements of the law.

2. The ability to appreciate the wrongfulness of one’s conduct.

His opinion was that because of her mental disease, Lindsay lacked the capacity to conform her conduct to the law when she killed the children.

He said she believed she had to obey the voice and did not experience herself as having the ability to choose whether to follow the command.

He also cited her suicide attempt as additional evidence that she lacked control and genuinely intended to die.

Altruistic Filicide

Resnick placed Lindsay partly in the altruistic filicide category — a parent who kills while believing, however irrationally, that doing so is in the child’s best interest.

He stated that she was obsessional about caring for her children; she consulted others at work about doing what was right for her children.

In his opinion, she believed if she took her own life, her children would be in terrible shape, and in her mind she believed she would be doing her children a favor by going to heaven with her, then remain on Earth without her doing the mothering.

Acutely Psychotic Filicide

He also classified the killings as acutely psychotic filicide.

That category involves a parent acting because of hallucinations or delusions rather than a rationally understandable motive.

In Resnick’s opinion, Lindsay was so dominated by the command hallucination and her belief that an outside force controlled her that she could not make a rational choice or conform her behavior to the law.

He testified that he didn't feel she fit the other categories because she loved Patrick, respected him, believed they had a good marriage, had never abused or spanked the children, that all three children were wanted, and that the couple had discussed having a fourth.

One statement really caught my attention.

Resnick said that Lindsay understood that “ordinarily” killing a child is against the law, but because of her distorted psychotic thinking, she believed what she was doing was morally right for her children.

Ordinarily?! 👀

What Lindsay told her providers:

Resnick was also questioned about what Lindsay did, and did not, disclose to her mental-health providers.

He described her as a more sophisticated patient than most who was generally forthcoming about her symptoms.

But there was one major exception.

She did not fully disclose the thoughts or impulses she was having about harming her children.

According to Resnick, she withheld that because she irrationally feared her children would be taken away.

This was the testimony I had been waiting for.

Resnick gave the defense its clearest explanation yet for how they believe Lindsay could function normally in many respects on January 24 while simultaneously being psychotic; and why, in his opinion, the killings were both altruistic and acutely psychotic.

I’m still processing parts of it, particularly the idea that she understood killing was ordinarily wrong but believed she would be doing her children a favor by not leaving them without her as a mother. Also, that she was a sophisticated patient.
