@realjoelroberts@jakeonrails You are silly to cede reasonable positions as ‘this is conservative’. Allowing conservatives to claim policies like public safety is counterproductive to liberal politics.
Public safety and reducing crime is or should be a huge left/liberal initiative. It’s effective government!

SITUATION DETECTED: Anthropic has set up a wet lab in the San Francisco Bay Area for physical biology work. It wants to unlock treatments for rare diseases, and its research has now gone beyond in silico evaluations, per Reuters.
@NoMoreBikeLanes@criticalurban The point of tax increment financing (which is temporary, by the way) is that it’s a free way for cities to encourage development and increase the tax rolls years later. Taxes are how cities pay for stuff they buy. If you don’t tax landowners, you tax people via sales tax.
@marcjoffe This is a lot of complaining when the obvious issue here is police abusing overtime. Are you going to hold SFPD responsible? Or just complain about BART?
@JeremiahDJohns Same with Anthropic’s report about how militias were using Claude to create missile guidance systems. That’s actually *your company* helping Islamist militias build missile guidance systems, which is undoubtedly a crime.
Anthropic modeled the economic impact of AI and their extreme scenario is WILD:
> unemployment: 11.9%
> knowledge worker unemployment: 17.9%
> knowledge worker wages: -11.5%
> knowledge worker employment: -21.5%
> GDP: +32.4%
> labor’s share of income: 60% → 45.2%
so it basically reflects what Dario has said: the economy gets dramatically richer while the average worker gets absolutely wrecked.
there is also a “modest” scenario in which the impact is les substantial:
> unemployment: 3.9%
> knowledge worker wages: +0.4%
> GDP: +1.6%
also, I may not like Anthropic, but I definitely love their taste in blog design.
From a valuation perspective, does this mean we should be discounting the terminal value by a flat 10%? Or is this something we should start baking in around year 4 or 5 in our DCF?Appreciate any color thanks

Obvious political tampering with the Census Bureau on display in this report. Lacks the most basic of standards. No transparency on methods or data
