17th Century tapestry from #Peru - along with the birds and flowers there's a crozier, a tassled galero, an archiepiscopal cross, and either a very squat mitre or a biretta.

#OTD in 1600, the Huaynaputina volcano in Peru exploded. Leading to the deaths of roughly 1,000 people, the eruption also led to the onset of a volcanic winter and was the largest volcanic eruption in South American recorded history. 🇵🇪
#OTD in 1676, the Lancaster Raid in Massachusetts occurred. The first of five raids on English colonist towns, the raid saw 400 Wampanoag, Nipmuc and Narragansett warriors attack Lancaster and secure provisions and English prisoners. By March 1676 the town had been abandoned. 🇺🇸
#OTD in 1613, Mikhail Romanov - the founder of the Romanov dynasty - became tsar of Russia. As the grandson of the brother of Ivan the Terrible’s first wife, Mikhail was just sixteen years old when he was chosen as tsar. 🇷🇺
