@blackgirlmage 4e introduced some really interesting mechanics (though I didn't like the overall design).

Dungeon World is probably the best, though, even though it is more restrictive than 5e. Very low power curve, and many abilities are geared towards story rather than killing.

Today I was lectured on the moral choices of my D&D character from a strange dude on the internet because she ended up killing an elected official after sneaking into his home to find evidence of human trafficking & tripped an alarm. Apparently she is destroying democracy.
