Iranian media report that four IRGC members from Kashan were killed in the joint US-Saudi strikes that hit PMF sites across Iraq overnight.

Put the dates side by side, then tell me this is coincidence.
On 17 July, Ali al-Zaidi was in Washington, and American companies came away with agreements approaching sixty billion dollars among them projects whose purpose was stated openly: alternative outlets for Iraqi oil exports away from the Strait of Hormuz. On the 22nd, Baghdad reversed its cancellation of the Development Road and brought the project back to life weeks after burying it. On the 28th he arrived in Ankara, signed three agreements with Erdoğan, extended oil pumping through Kirkuk–Ceyhan, and discussed a pipeline linking Basra to Haditha, then on to Ceyhan and Baniyas. He was scheduled to land in Riyadh two days later.

And on the very day his plane touched down in Ankara, drones were launching from Iraqi soil toward Saudi oil facilities. For the second consecutive day.
Whoever wants to believe this is a scheduling accident is welcome to. I see a specific project being targeted, at a specific moment.

Because what al-Zaidi was signing in Ankara is not some passing economic file. Iran's influence in Iraq was never built on doctrine rather it was built on monopoly: monopoly of the outlet, of the market, of the weapon. Every pipeline running north out of Basra, every container taking the Development Road instead of waters Tehran controls, cuts a piece out of that monopoly that cannot be recovered.

And Tehran today has staked everything on closing Hormuz as its last card. What remains of that card if Iraq exits the strait altogether?
Then there is 30 September; the deadline al-Zaidi set for disarming every faction, which the strongest factions announced in advance they would not honour. Now imagine asking anyone to surrender their weapons in the middle of a war with Riyadh and Washington. War doesn't merely void the deadline; it inverts it. The rejected weapon becomes a national necessity, and whoever demands its surrender becomes a traitor.

One attack, and two targets fall together: the regional opening, and the disarmament deadline.
And the sharpest part is that al-Zaidi is no adversary of Iran to begin with. He came as a consensus candidate from the Coordination Framework, and he visited Tehran days before Ankara. The man never tried to sever the relationship; he tried to stop it being the only one. That alone was enough.

And note where the strikes landed: Baghdad, Basra, Nineveh, Karbala, Wasit, Kirkuk, Diyala. Then look at the Development Road's map: Basra, Diwaniyah, Najaf, Karbala, Baghdad, Mosul. The factions sit on the same corridor. Whoever sits on the road decides who passes.

Iraq, in short, was not brought into this war because it is a party to it. It was brought in because its exit would have cost Tehran more than it could bear meaning its influence in Iraq, so this is all about Iran’s national interests again
