Turns out ‘Jin Chao’ from the #DevilWearsPrada2 is not merely high-achieving & socially inept—she surveils private convos, and mimics her boss w/out developing her own personality. Good ol’ Asian tropes: robotic, sneaky, useful, unoriginal copycats 😹 Happy #AAPIheritage month?
🚊@MBTA D line skipped Woodland Stn on the way out & on the way back in. After the first miss, driver said “the inbound train will stop” and guided me onto next train. It hurtled past my stop. How do we recommend friends take transit when you’re letting us down twice in a row? 😓
“I’m a member of the Imperial Senate on a diplomatic mission to Alderaan!” didn’t work for Princess Leia. Did they really think it was going to go any better with DHS stormtroopers? 😅
🇲🇳 Team Mongolia’s #ParisOlympics clothes for the opening ceremony, designed by Michel & Amazonka in Ulaanbaatar, are these badass, imperial space nomad outfits.
Calling out oppression is offensive?! 🇺🇸 Should we stop teaching about the American Revolution to avoid upsetting students with English ancestry? After all, such inconvenient historical facts could paint the British in a negative light! 🙀 🇬🇧❄️ https://t.co/vkqrCQ7GDL
Matt Taibbi and Elon Musk rummaged through millions of emails & Slack messages from pre-Musk Twitter & all they found was employees deliberating & consulting w/each other about how to fairly apply & enforce rules. But I get it..
To a rich white man, that seems very oppressive
A protest wall at @MIT of blank white paper, in solidarity with the same blank sheets Chinese protestors are holding up in demonstrations nationwide #whitepaper#WhitePaperRevolution#白纸运动 https://t.co/iHrQLg2pq8
1/ Students holding a map of China and a black banner reading “ our lives are one” gathered at the Chinese University of Hong Kong on Monday to show support for protests in the mainland dubbed the “A4 Revolution."
Went back to the exact same place where protests were in Beijing last night in Liangmaqiao. Totally quiet. Instead, entire street of police vans.
This is a police state w/ far-reaching security/surveillance. No social media that allows people to easily mobilize and gather either
It’s now just super annoying to live, work or pass through Wulumuqi lu in #Shanghai.
Police (plainclothes and uniformed) on every corner. Was told not to take pictures. When I kept asking why, the officer and I agreed that I wouldn’t take photos of the police. But it’s tense.
This video is making its rounds on WeChat, allegedly showing a street sign taken down at Wulumuqi Rd in Shanghai. Someone joked: "Are they changing it to Road 404 now?"
Statements from students at @PKU1898 and @Tsinghua_Uni, found on the internet. Well done, especially the PKU one (but I’m biased towards the place where I grew up).
One more from Beijing. This girl read out, standing on Liang Ma He riverbank “let’s remember. Dr Li ( Li Wen Liang)a whistleblower who warned of Covid but died of virus infection and was punished, remember the Guizhou bus that shipped infected patients who died on road, remember
Ppl in different cities start to echo and support each other. This gathering in Beijing was themed with “上海加油 which means add oil Shanghai”. 上海放人 which means “Shanghai you free the arrested!”
