Today, #Thanksgiving day 2018, marks 4 years since 12 yrs old #TamirRice was killed by Cleveland police. Lifting up his mama, Ms. Rice & all families who are navigating grief during the holidays because their loved ones were taken prematurely. #BlackLivesMatter
Hurricane Katrina killed 1,833 people.
▪️ Most were people trapped in New Orleans
▪️ 40% of deaths were caused by drowning
▪️ Almost half of fatalities were people over 74
The coinciding of Katrina’s anniversary alongside Puerto Rico’s new death toll is a reminder that the impacts of climate change most directly impact black, brown, & poor people.
It’s not a matter of us *anticipating* climate change’s impact. It’s already right in front of us.
