At a minimum, he would have set up a proper leadership structure to deal with the insecurity. This means giving security chiefs clear targets (KPIs), realistic deadlines, and the necessary resources to deliver, while ultimately holding them fully accountable for any failure.

Here are some example KPIs that should be publicly reported and tracked to measure objective performance:

1) How many kidnapping or mass killing cases are reported per month?

2) How many casualties or deaths are recorded?

3) In how many of these cases are the culprits identified, arrested, or neutralized?

4) How long (in days) does it take to track them down?

5) In how many cases are ransoms paid?

6) What is the total ransom paid per month, and how much of it is recovered?

7) What is the average cost spent per case?

8) What percentage of security personnel involved have undergone specialized training to improve their efficiency?

To be clear, by "accountable," I mean: FIRE THEM if they fail to meet targets within acceptable timeframes or cannot account for the resources given to them. PROSECUTE and jail them if they are found negligent or corrupt. CONFISCATE any property or funds meant for security operations that they have converted to personal use.

Lastly, your question suggests you believe nothing can be done about Nigeria's insecurity. If you actually believed a solution was possible, you wouldn't be framing the question this way.

Any analysis done with the data of 2023 Lagos state governorship election is flawed. This is because, that election was heavily marred by touts preventing people from voting in collusion with INEC officials.

It is true that touts and partisan INEC officials have always impacted election results in Nigeria, but the 2023 presidential election that saw Peter Obi winning lagos triggered an unprecedented panic that caused thuggery at previously unseen levels during the governorship election.

Why did the IG order for only one person to be released? Why did he not order for everyone to be released and launch an investigation into improper police conduct ??

Releasing just one person when several others are still trapped in there creates the impression that he endorses such random arrests for money.

It’s a major indictment of the Nigerian legal system when parties celebrate that they have no court case. It shows a complete lack of faith that the judiciary will ever do the just thing. What a shame!
