What does early Romani studies have to do with occultism? How has "magic" functioned in gypsy stereotyping? New open-access article out in the journal Religion: https://t.co/38W8k51uGb
That article was published in ARV: Nordic Journal of Folklore, and can be accessed on my Academia page: "The Trickster and the Witch: On the Romani Origins of 'Captain Elin's Idol'" https://t.co/Nk4uhDC5p1
The first article (w/S. Casinge) tells the story of Anna Maria Adamsdotter (born c. 1680) who left rich testimony on her "magic", along with the earliest Romani language sample in Scandinavia – and what might be the oldest surviving artefact produced by a named Romani individual.
