Digital access is no longer a luxury — it is essential for learning, confidence and opportunity.

It was a real privilege to join @EastEnd_CF (EECF), @LETTA_Trust and partners as High Sheriff of Greater London at @PE_Columbia to mark a major milestone in the EECF Connecting Communities programme.

At Columbia Primary School, 30 laptops were presented to pupils identified as most in need — and the programme also celebrated the delivery of its 2000th device to a family in Tower Hamlets.

What began as a targeted response to digital exclusion during the pandemic has grown into a powerful cross-sector partnership supporting thousands of families across East London with devices, broadband, IT training and ongoing support.

I was particularly struck by the joy and excitement of the pupils receiving their Chromebooks. These are not just devices. They are tools for homework, creativity, curiosity and opportunity.

As I said to the pupils, wherever you have come from, it should never limit your dreams or your ambitions.

Huge congratulations to East End Community Foundation, Columbia Primary School, The LETTA Trust, @HarcaPoplar, @TowerHamletsNow, @NorthernTrust, @CommunityFibre and all the partners and supporters who have made this milestone possible.

After riding 146km, our riders arrived at Harwich International Port and spent the night onboard the ferry to the Hook of Holland. After a good night’s sleep they have now disembarked, completed their warmup, bike checks and are off again on the Amsterdam leg of their journey, just 90km to go!
