There is something so fundamental here that China "experts" do not understand about how China operates. Whether it is in tech or other industries, Chinese business operate under a key concept that is rather different from the American concept.

It is better to ask for forgiveness than permission. In a way, China is the ultimate libertarian paradise. Just go do something and ask for forgiveness later. One of the best examples is Uber and Didi operated and became huge businesses for multiple years before receiving their official business license. Why do you think China can assemble a drug trial in a few months? It's rubber stamped and let's not even start talking about patient "consent".

These industries race ahead and let government catch up and then ask for forgiveness. I find it mind boggling when I hear people talk about what America needs to do but never discuss anything like zoning reform. Liability reform. Allowing companies to ignore government regulation.

This was a) an idiotic idea when you haven’t even deleted the police abolition tweets, b) ridiculously disingenuous when you yourself are still talking out of both sides of your mouth on this issue, and c) utterly delusional, since virtually no Trump voters will jump party lines for Hong

Her only hope is that enough low-propensity Republicans don’t show up, since she’d get annihilated in a presidential year. More broadly, in the first election where they were able to win primaries, socialists gave the Democrats a serial rapist, a cousin-fucker, and a supporter of police abolition.

Even if the Dems pull this out due to the national environment/Trump being a psychopath and some great swing state candidates (all of whom were Chuck Schumer picks, not DSA people), they are fucked long term because for the first time in my life the GOP is going to have an advantage when it comes to candidate quality in the not-too-distant future. Given the GOP’s geographical advantages, if the Dems actually start running *worse* candidates than the Republicans, this might be the last time they have a chance to retake the senate for the next several decades

$INTC Intel just unveiled Starfire, a new space-grade chip built on 18A

Intel has introduced Starfire, a radiation-tolerant system-on-chip designed for satellites and spacecraft. It adapts the multi-tile architecture from Panther Lake and hardens it for the extreme conditions of space.

The design includes four performance cores and four efficiency cores on Intel’s 18A process, a three-tile neural processing unit also on 18A, and a four-core Xe GPU with 64 execution units on Intel 3. Everything is integrated using Foveros packaging.

Two versions are planned:
- Low-power model under 10W, delivering up to roughly 45 TOPS
- Higher-performance model at 35W, delivering up to roughly 75 TOPS

It is rated to operate from -55°C to 125°C and is designed for a service life of more than 10 years. It supports LPDDR5/DDR5 memory and 12 PCIe Gen4 lanes.

Radiation characterization (total ionizing dose, single-event latch-up, and other single-event effects) is still in progress.

Sean O’Neill, deputy director of product development at Intel Government Technologies, said the company expects to complete that testing before the end of the third quarter.

Engineering samples are also targeted for Q3 2026, with broader customer availability expected by the end of the year.

The focus is onboard AI and data processing so satellites can handle image analysis, object detection, anomaly detection, sensor fusion, and autonomous operations without constant reliance on ground stations.

While Terafab is about high-volume manufacturing scale with Tesla and SpaceX, Starfire shows Intel is also pushing its leading-edge process technology into specialized space computing, with domestic assembly and qualification as part of the offering.

A quiet but meaningful expansion into orbital compute.

The #elitecapture of Roland Busch, and Siemens by China on full display as he advocates in this op-ed that Europe should not choose between US and Chinese tech, but instead become a trusted connector of these two tech titans. But the growing depth of the connections between authoritarian regimes is hard to ignore, for ex. China's support for Russia's war in Ukraine.

Just what type of technology does Europe want to sign up for from a Leninist authoritarian state where independent political opposition is illegal? Where the party apparatus penetrates and controls all levels of the govt, military, and society? Where civil rights, media, and public dissent are strictly limited, even though the economy incorporates large private markets?

Of course, Siemens wants to continue making money in China (and even that money pot has been in decline for several years) and will advocate this Chinese position in order to protect their own bacon. But European leaders need to choose wisely on the type of future they want, not only in regard to short term economic gain, but longer term authoritarian influence and consider how technological dependence on China will import their values, erode their institutions, and imperil their democracies.
