Footage of a heated exchange at Mfantsipim School, Cape Coast, 1968, between the students and three Black American teenagers visiting to reconnect with their roots. When the Americans compared household servants to slavery, the Ghanaians fired back: “That’s an insult to Africa!”
UNICEF Tamale Field Office marked Global Handwashing Day with a staff event themed “Be a Handwashing Hero.” Activities included a handwashing demonstration and a hygiene quiz that highlighted key facts: fewer than half of Ghanaian households have soap and water for handwashing, 18 million people lack hygiene services, and only 54% of schools and healthcare facilities have basic hygiene stations.
Hand hygiene remains essential for health, education, and well-being, especially for children across Ghana. #GlobalHandwashingDay #SDG6 #WASH

Ghana has taken a major step forward for its most vulnerable citizens with the passage of the Social Protection Act, 2025 (Act 1148), the Social Protection Regulations, 2026 (L.I.2521), the Affirmative Action (Gender Equity) Regulations, 2026 (L.I. 2522), and their accompanying regulations.
UNICEF Ghana Representative Andy Brooks emphasised that the focus should be on actively implementing this new legislation. Putting these laws into practice is what will ultimately make a huge difference in the lives of vulnerable people.
