It is because there is no collective consciousness around an ideological position, instead, people are centred around personalities, from the days of vaMugabe Chete Chete to this very day!

A society that defends political personalities rather than a cause will remain stagnant because it becomes a crime to critique leadership decisions.

If you focus on a cause, individuals become dispensable if they are an impediment to achieving that cause!

When people become too attached to individual leaders and their personalities, it leads to blind loyalty and a failure to hold those leaders accountable for their actions.
This is problematic in political contexts, where leaders then use their charisma and popularity to consolidate power and suppress dissent while delivering nothing.

By contrast, when people are focused on a cause or a set of principles, they hold their leaders to a higher standard and demand that they take actions consistent with those principles.
In this way, individuals become replaceable if they are not advancing the cause, while the cause itself remains constant and enduring.

Individual personality politics is what is driving the Third Term agenda.
If you ask ZANUPF supporters why they want Mnangagwa to have a Third Term, they don’t have a reason linked to a cause, it is all about personality politics.

But if ZANUPF politics were linked to a national cause focused on delivery, they wouldn’t have given him even a second term!

This is why you hear less about issues in opposition politics and more about leadership bootlicking driven by sycophancy.

There are no debates around what has been delivered, what has failed to be delivered, and why it hasn’t been delivered!

Serious people in any society should not shape their ideas based on sycophantic behaviour, even if you are left alone in pushing what is right, do so.

Having loads of people coalesce around failed politics won’t change the fact that it is failed politics!
