I am sad that I almost lost my life when I delivered a baby recently because of some form of carelessness from my health professional. It is still hard to come to terms with the fact that I had a bad experience myself while I am still investigating maternity experiences of BW
Always distressing to read about the poor outcomes in mums and babies from ethnically diverse women @mbrrace Excellent session today at the release of the MBRRACE-UK perinatal confidential enquiry report launch today
It's time we change this narrative #everylifematters
@instablog9ja She clearly didn’t make any attempt to stop her son from doing what he was doing. I would understand her frustration better if she was struggling to keep him under control.
@JulieBrownxx@NormanBrennan Stood still whilst been attacked by three big dogs? we should probably pray for you to find your self in such position and watch you stand still.

Peer support groups are an important aspect of recovery for women from ethnically diverse backgrounds. They are places where they don't feel judged. @ebun_makinde touches on the value of peer support in the #perinatalmentalhealth ecosystem. #esmi2event@esmi_ii
Well said! People cannot be separated from their culture and beliefs, these are what informs help seeking decisions and patterns. What needs to be done is equipping women with information on access and availability of support @hmpartnership@PMHMidwives@JaydeTEdwards
Consideration of cultural beliefs & expectations, perceptions around seeking help & access to services are all key considerations when looking at barriers to engaging with #perinatalmentalhealth services. Observations from @ebun_makinde@esmi_ii#esmi2event#esmi2study
The role of peer support groups cannot be over emphasised in perinatal mental health recovery. It is sustainable and most preferred by all women, especially ethnically diverse women.
Today I had the opportunity to speak on a panel chaired by @sandeeigwe to discuss the study published by @ebun_makinde.
Some of the recommendations I feel are fantastic, in particular promoting and empowering peer-to-peer.
The conversion has started, now let’s make change.
@SRSCMAT@CTKAlfreton@D_Times That’s amazing. Congratulations and weldone everyone. My son attends this school and I can say he looks forward to going to school everyday. He learns new things everyday. He also has a senior buddy that helps him learn.
