A healthy planet isn’t just good for nature, it’s good for people, too.
#GEO7 shows that investing in a healthy planet could lift more than 100 million people out of extreme poverty by 2050.
The cost of inaction is too high.
Governments must choose a better path: https://t.co/oHifFb0f5X

At COP30, the Fossil Fuel Treaty brought together a panel of frontline leaders, Indigenous representatives, civil society campaigners, and climate justice advocates who discussed the urgency of a global fossil fuel phase-out and the gaps in international action and the Fossil Fuel Treaty that complements the Paris Agreement.
Tzeporah Berman highlighted the contradiction of the Brazilian government calling for a transition while expanding oil and gas production in the Amazon, while at the same time hosting COP30 in Belem, a city within the Amazon. She stressed that COP30 must deliver a clear, global roadmap for phase-out.
Indigenous leader Olivia Bisa reminded delegates that Amazonian peoples are the “first scientists,” carrying ancestral knowledge and living ith the direct impacts of extraction. Championing for a Fossil Fuel Treaty, she warned that inaction will lead to complicity in ecocide and demanded a just, people-centred transition.
From the Niger Delta, Goodness Dickson spoke of decades of pollution, displacement and unfulfilled promises. He pointed out that there's a need for international law, transparency and mechanisms that hold fossil fuel companies accountable, especially as they try to evade responsibility, which has been the case in the Niger Delta with Shell.
Crystal Cavalier argued for the rights of indigenous communities, biodiversity and ecosystems, noting that a Fossil Fuel Treaty could empower communities even when national governments fail to act.
PSA’s Kuda Manjonjo stressed that not all “transition” energy is clean. He pointed out that gas expansion creates new sacrifice zones and exerts extractive pressures, especially in vulnerable communities in the Global South, pointing out that this must be challenged.
Harjeet Singh closed the session by calling for systemic economic shifts, a feminist and justice-driven Belem Action Mechanism, as well as an end to consensus rules that allow a single country to block global progress.
Tomorrow, join us at our #COP30 side event to learn about why it’s time for a #FossilFuelTreaty! ✊🌏
Speakers will discuss the rationale, opportunities, & challenges for a new mechanism to equitably phase out fossil fuels through a just transition.

Recycling e-waste not only cuts pollution but also helps recover critical raw materials needed for a clean energy future.
Better recycling and reuse could cut the need for new mining by up to 10% by 2050.
