Today, we mark eight years since Philando Castile was fatally shot by a police officer moments after being pulled over for a broken taillight. Philando Castile — a father, public school employee, neighbor— should still be here. His memory is a driving force for change. (1/3)
I love my school community and the love we pour into each other. Leading with love and receiving it back from my school community is truly rewarding. Gideon Pond leads with love. #BecomingDrHussein
Becca Buck is a music teacher at Gideon Pond Elementary School and a finalist for this year’s @EducationMN Teacher of the Year Award.
We had the chance to talk to Becca about her teaching journey and what inspires her as an educator.
This Friday we celebrated our sister Maryan since we could not be at her award ceremony for Community excellence and we wanted to show our #sisterlove❤️maryan is show by our sisters showing up and bringing the food, music and fun! 🤩#thankful#alhamdulillah#one91#Somalinimo
Great first day of our residency with Dr. Soojin Lee on South Korean music (drumming) with our 3rd-5th graders in @gideon_pond music class! WOW!! Happy #AAPIHeritageMonth !

Authenticity attracts community. I
attended the Somali Faanka event in Fairbault and unexpectedly found myself being recognized alongside my favorite teachers, @eccabay08 and @2020MNTOY. Loving our community as it grows to include all and shares joys. #Community
I had a blast at the St. Olaf Somali Ensemble event! It was heartwarming to see my culture embraced and people from different communities singing Somali songs with joy and love. Here's to community! 🎶 #SomaliMusic#StOlaf#Community#somalisongs#RehannaKheshgi
Thank you to the Music Therapy Association of MN for hosting us for this fab workshop! And thank you to St. Olaf for having us join your incredible Somali music evening! @2020MNTOY and I have had the most beautiful weekend with community!
Surrounding communities, @RepAngieCraig and @MNAFLCIO President Bernie Burnham came together tonight in support of Burnsville educators and their fight for a fair contract — 300 days and counting! Stronger together. Always! ✊
Thank you @SPPS_News for hosting @2020MNTOY & I to share our work on “The Rhythm of Somalia”! It was a beautiful evening of music and community and we can’t wait to see how this work benefits the students. 💖
Today is day 300 without a teacher contract. ISD 191 originally proposed 0% and 0% raises to teachers over the next two years. This is not a pathway to success, this is humiliating and degrading to the people who are helping this district’s kids become smarter & better people.
School board elections matter.
Standing with Anoka Hennepin Education Minnesota and the students who packed last night's meeting and are now caught in the middle of an extremist attempt to hold the district's budget hostage. #freedomtolearn
